In-vitro diagnostics, applied testing, life science solutions and lab automation

The great versatility, sensitivity and specificity of molecular biology make it an especially useful tool for the diagnostics of human derived samples. Molecular diagnostics has greatly improved the speed and precision of modern day medicine, and has been implemented as a routine diagnostic tool throughout clinical labs around the world.

Infectious diseases

SGP supplies a wide range of CE-IVD certified products for pathogen detection in human samples. Our products are compatible with manual, as well as automated workflows, depending on the specific needs and throughput of our customers.

  1. Virus detection. We offer diagnostic qPCR kits, and the accompanying extraction chemistry for qualitative and quantitative viral DNA/RNA measurement in human samples. Our product range includes kits for the detection of blood borne pathogens like Hepatitis and HIV, as well as Herpes-family viruses, polyomaviruses and adenoviruses. Our qualitative assays encompass an even wider range of respiratory, gastrointestinal, and exotic viral pathogens.
  2. Bacteria and fungi. We offer both individual and multiplex PCR kits for the detection of microorganisms causing sexually transmitted, respiratory, gastrointestinal, meningitis and sepsis type infections in humans. Depending on the lab setting, we can set up a manual or automated qPCR workflows, or a fully automated cartridge based point-of-need solution.
  3. Conventional microbiology. We supply a range of high quality dehydrated or ready to use microbiology media suitable for both clinical and industrial microbiology applications.

Oncology

SGP’s oncological portfolio includes PCR or sequencing kits for detection of mutations in solid or tumors or leukemias. Our CE-IVD products use either qPCR or pyrosequencing technology. We also provide a range of products for target enrichment, library preparation and next generation sequencing compatible with various commercially available NGS platforms.

  1. Solid tumors. The detection of somatic mutations in solid tumors is often indicative of the individual treatment outcome. Our products provide a means of detecting either tumor driver mutations, which are associated with better response to targeted TKI therapy, or mutations accounting for resistance to therapy. Our qPCR kits search for specific clinically validated mutations, while our pyrosequencing kits analyze several mutation sites within the same amplicon.
  2. Leukemias represent a highly complex group of diseases, whose diagnosis has been characterized with many difficulties throughout the past debates. Our products for qPCR based detection of somatic mutations in leukemias help increase the precision of diagnosis and treatment of these diseases. We also provide products for monitoring of BCR-ABL transcript levels for disease monitoring and early detection of relapse.
  3. NGS solutions. We provide a full range of consumables and equipment for targeted enrichment and library preparation prior to NGS. Our products are compatible with the most widely used brands of NGS platforms, and cover a wide range of DNA and RNA based applications. Our workflow encompasses all stages of sample preparation and QC from DNA/RNA extraction to a fully prepared library. We also offer comprehensive software tools for alignment and interpretation of sequencing data.
  4. We offer a range of primary monoclonal antibodies for immunohistochemistry, for various histological markers.

Human Genetics

SGP offers a wide range of products for diagnosing genetic mutations in humans. We provide kits for detection of small as well as large scale genetic alterations, using qPCR or QF-PCR technology.

  1. This portfolio includes a wide range of individual or multiplex kits for detection of mutations associated with increased risk of thrombosis. Most often, these mutations represent small nucleotide changes in genes coding different factors involved in the blood clotting cascade. Our kits use wither qPCR or QF-PCR technology.
  2. Reproductive health. These products are used for assessment of genetic causes of infertility. A QF-PCR based approach is used to detect Y-microdeletions or autosomal trisomies associated with pregnancy loss.
  3. Aneuploidy analysis. A range of product for aneuploidy testing provides different combinations of STR markers for the detection of the most common trisomies. Additional markers are used to detect aneuploidy of the sex chromes. The technology used is QF-PCR.
  4. Gene expansions. A selection of products provide a means of diagnosing conditions caused by expansion of tandem repeats within certain genes. These conditions include most notably Fragile X syndrome, Huntington’s disease and myotonic dystrophy. A step-by-step approach is used for the screening and consecutive confirmation of disease using DNA melting, Sanger sequencing or methylation analysis.
  5. Other genetic conditions. We provide additional solutions for the diagnostics of genetic diseases such as cystic fibrosis, Ashkenazi genetic diseases, lactose and fructose intolerance, Gilbert’s syndrome and others, using either qPCR or QF-PCR methodology.

The unsurpassed precision of molecular biology makes is uniquely suited to highly sensitive applications other than medical diagnostics. Such applications, commonly depicted by the term Applied Testing include DNA fingerprinting (used for casework human identification), food safety testing (for DNA based control of food ingredients) and veterinary diagnostic (for early and precise detection of critical zoonotic infections).

Forensics

SGP supplies a range of consumables and automated workflows for forensic DNA analysis. Our products are validated in compliance with guidelines for the ENFSI and the SWGDAM.

  1. DNA purification. The process of extracting high quality DNA is crucial to the success of human identification. Depending on the needs of our customers, we can provide products for either manual or automated DNA purification. Our solutions use spin column or magnetic bead technology.
  2. Human DNA quantification. Our kits for human DNA quantification use a qPCR technique in order to determine whether a casework sample contains sufficient DNA do enable DNA fingerprinting analysis. The kits can also detect the presence of PCR inhibitors and the level of DNA degradation.
  3. STR analysis. Our STR kits use PCR and capillary electrophoresis to analyze different sets of STR loci, including ESS, CODIS, X- or Y-chromosome loci. An optional quality sensor provides additional information about the quantity and quality of DNA and the success of amplification. There is also a product line for fast STR analysis without prior DNA extraction, for usage with reference samples.
  4. Integration. Using our automated solutions for DNA extraction and liquid handling, we are able to provide a fully integrated HID workflow. By facilitating communication between all instruments in the workflow, and an optional validation service in site, we are able to minimize the risk of human error, thus increasing the overall efficiency and credibility of the HID lab.

Food Safety

SGP’s portfolio includes a set of dedicated kits for various application in food safety testing. We provide solutions for the testing of GMO, animal or plant species, and food pathogens, using different analytical techniques. We also offer fully customizable qPCR panels for detection industry specific pathogens.

  1. GMO testing. Genetically modified organisms can be easily traced by molecular techniques design to detect foreign DNA construct that are used to transform the original crop. Our kits employ conventional or real-time PCR for detection of GMO species individually or in panels. We also offer GMO DNA controls containing predefined concentrations of GMO.
  2. Species identification. The contents of food products should be clearly indicated on the corresponding labels. Verifying the equivalence of actual and listed contents is an important part of food safety control. We provide conventional or qPCR kits that detect different animal and plant species for highly precise ingredient authentication.
  3. Food pathogens. Various pathogens are associated with undesired phenomena like food poisoning or spoilage. We provide ELISA or qPCR based kits for detection of the most common food pathogens. Apart from the individual testing kits, we provide customized solutions for qPCR detection of user defined panels of pathogens. These panels come as pre-dispensed primers and probe in a plate format compatible with the PCR instrument used by the laboratory.

Veterinary Medicine

We provide a range of products that help identify animal diseases – to protect human health, the environment and the food chain. Our products for veterinary testing are registered as veterinary IVD devices in Europe, and are relied upon by veterinary doctors and agencies across the globe.

  1. NA extraction. We offer a dedicated range of DNA and RNA extraction from animal derived samples including blood, tissues, feces and milk. These kit use proven silica-based technology and are especially optimized for animal samples.
  2. Vet pathogen detection. Our veterinary pathogen kits use ELISA or PCR technology and cover a wide range of poultry, ruminant, swine and equine bacterial and viral pathogens. We are also able to support our customers in developing and supplying in house assays based on published reference protocols for certain pathogens.

A large part of SGP’s portfolio is dedicated to different fields of scientific research. Our products cover the whole range of sample preparation, quality control and analysis steps of the typical experimental workflow. Apart from specific consumables and reagents, we provide the instruments required for processing and analysis.

DNA and RNA extraction

We provide a comprehensive list of products for extraction of nucleic acids from biological samples. Our purification kits are compatible with human, animal, plant and environmental samples, and employ either spin column or magnetic bead technology.

  1. Manual DNA extraction. We supply a range of kits for purification of genomic, pathogen or free circulating DNA. The supported sample types include blood, serum/plasma, body fluids, tissues, animal blood and tissues, FFPE samples, and stool. Our kits employ spin column technology in a convenient microcentrifuge format.
  2. Manual RNA extraction. These products are used to purify RNA including or excluding miRNA, RNA from exosomes and RNA with integrated gDNA removal. The supported sample types include blood, serum/plasma, body fluids, easy or difficult to lyse tissues, animal blood, cell cultures, FFPE samples. Our kits employ spin column technology in a convenient microcentrifuge format.
  3. Plasmid DNA extraction. Our dedicated products purify plasmid DNA on a small or large scale, with different application grades ranging from transfection to sequencing. The kits employ spin column technology in a convenient microcentrifuge format.
  4. DNA cleanup. Our proven spin column technology finds further applications in the purification of DNA from PCR and sequencing reactions as well as agarose gel separations.
  5. DNA and RNA co-purification. A specialized product line is used to co-purify DNA and RNA from tissues, cell or FFPE samples. The kits employ spin column technology in a convenient microcentrifuge format.
  6. Difficult to lyse and inhibited samples. A dedicated product line is used to extract nucleic acids from otherwise challenging sample types. The challenges arise from difficulties encountered during sample lysis (soil, hard tissues) or the high abundance of inhibiting substances (soil, plant leaves, stool).
  7. Automated purification. We are able to automate most of our purification protocols. Automated extraction is performed by using either specially designed magnetic bead based kits, or simply utilizing our manual column based products on a dedicated robot.

PCR Kits and Reagents

To support researchers who design their own experimental workflow, we provide various types of PCR consumables for different applications. We offer individual PCR enzymes or ready to use master mixes to suit all formats. Our product range includes kits for end-point PCR, one- or two-step RT PCR, SYBR Green or probe based qPCR, and high resolution melting.

  1. End-point PCR. Our solutions for end point PCR come as ready to use master mixes or individual enzymes and reagents. Our hot start enzymes are very sensitive to 3’-mismatches, which makes them especially useful in sensitive genotyping applications.
  2. To facilitate post-PCR detection, we provide a range of agaroses, molecular weight markers, buffers and EtBr substitutes. We offer one of the top quality brands of electrophoresis chambers.
  3. RT-PCR. Depending on the specific needs of our customer, we supply a diverse range of reverse transcription products in a one- or two-step format and chemistry that is optimized for either end-point or real-time PCR detection.
  4. qPCR. Our wide range of real-time PCR kits is fine tuned for specific applications such as multiplex PCR, ultrafast protocols, superior sensitivity and SYBR Green or probe based detection. Some of our product use innovations such as visual pipetting indicators, dual phase hot start etc.

General lab supplies

Through our extensive network of suppliers and logistics partners we supply all the plastics, glassware and basic instruments, that a lab requires in order to support its function. We thus provide our customers with complete solutions for their labs.

Oligonucleotides and genomic services

Researchers can benefit from our flexible solutions for oligonucleotide synthesis and purification. Apart from simple PCR primers, we can provide the widest range of fluorescent labels and probes on the market, and a comprehensive set of genomic services.

  1. PCR primers. We provide DNA and RNA oligo synthesis according to your specification. We let you define the settings of your oligonucleotide by your own. Select between different synthesis scales, purification levels and modifications.
  2. qPCR probes. For gene expression analysis, SNP genotyping or mutation detection via real-time PCR, we offer the widest available range of MGB, dual label and LightCycler probes, as well as Molecular Beacons.
  3. Genomic services. In case you labs does not have capacity or the required expertise, we offer flexible and highly streamlined sequencing, microarray, gene expression, genotyping and gene synthesis services.

Epigenetics

Epigenetics is a branch of biomedical science that studies changes to gene function, which are not caused by differences in DNA sequence. Our epigenetics products analyze DNA methylation and chromatin modifications.

  1. DNA methylation. Our products for DNA methylation analysis employ either bisulfite conversion or restriction enzyme digestion. Bisulfite converted DNA can be analyzed using MSP, pyrosequencing or high resolution melting. Our restriction based workflow uses a mix of methylation dependent and methylation sensitive restriction enzymes, which cleave DNA depending on its methylation status.
  2. ChIP analysis. Chromatin immunoprecipitation is a technique, which is used to investigate DNA-protein interactions, and their effect on gene expression and function. Our reagents employ antibodies with specificity to certain histone modifications. Precipitated DNA is then subjected to SYBR Green based qPCR analysis.

Expression studies

We offer a range of gene expression assays and consumables to support various types of expression studies.

  1. Single gene expression assays. We provide a range of single gene expression primers, coupled with RT-PCR and SYBR Green chemistry for analyzing expression of individual genes.
  2. Gene expression arrays. In case of multiple genes of interest, we can offer catalogued or entirely customized gene expression arrays in the form of pre-dispensed PCR plates compatible with the PCR machine used at the lab. Complementary to the arrays, we provide reagents to perform all pre-analytical step for maximum performance.
  3. miRNA expression. We offer a dedicated line of products optimized for miRNA purification and expression analysis. Our miRNA assays can be order individually or in pre-dispensed array format depending on the experiment design.

Microbiology research

We offer a wide range of validated primer and probe pairs for the detection of different pathogens. Apart from pathogen identification, our primer/probe sets also target genes that code antibiotic resistance or virulence.

  1. Individual microbial assays. These assays contain a primer pair and a qPCR probe for the detection of a single microbial target – a bacterium, fungus or resistance/virulence genotype.
  2. Microbial PCR arrays. Apart from the individual assays, we provide customized solutions for qPCR detection of user defined panels of pathogens. These panels come as pre-dispensed primers and probes in a plate format compatible with the PCR instrument used by the laboratory.

Protein expression and purification

We provide a range of product for protein isolation and analysis, focused on applications such as protein crystallization, expression, preparation, stabilization and fixation.

Our automation solutions provide use cutting edge technology to automate laboratory processes, thus reducing the hands-on time required for the performance of a molecular test or experiment. Thus, automation reduces the labor costs associated with manual processing and minimizes the risks associated with human error and worktable contamination.

Sample disruption

Our sample disruption instruments facilitate the breakdown of difficult to lyse materials, so that the nucleic acids and molecules contained in them become readily available for subsequent purification and analysis.

  1. We offer rotor-stator homogenizers for rapid, efficient, and flexible disruption of human, animal, and plant samples. The blade of the probe rotates at a high speed, causing simultaneous disruption and homogenization of a sample through a combination of turbulence and mechanical shearing.
  2. Bead milling. Our bead mills simultaneously disrupt multiple biological samples through high-speed shaking in plastic tubes with stainless steel, tungsten carbide, or glass beads. We have small and large throughput mills to suit your needs.

Quality assessment

An important part of molecular detection is the assessment of quality prior to analysis. We provide various instruments, which facilitate this process.

  1. UV/VIS spectrophotometry. We offer fast and easy to use UV/VIS spectrophotometers which profile sample content to differentiate between DNA and RNA and sample impurities, using microliter volumes.
  2. Capillary electrophoresis. We offer a specialized instrument for nucleic acid fragment analysis, which is especially suitable for sample quality check prior to downstream sequencing applications.

General Equipment

Apart from specialized molecular biology equipment, we can supply any type of general lab equipment including, lab furniture, incubators, centrifuges, water baths, gel documentation systems, pipettes, vacuum workstations, autoclaves, laminar flow boxes and many others.

Nucleic Acid Extraction

Our portfolio includes a wide range of robots that automate the process of nucleic acid purification. Our systems minimize contamination and human error, and provide the needed process traceability for sensitive analytical applications.

  1. Spin column extraction. We provide several platforms that are able to automate spin column extraction kits. These instruments are available for either low or high 96-well throughput applications.
  2. Magnetic particle extraction. We offer several robots that use silica coated magnetic particles, instead of spin columns, to purify nucleic acids from biological samples. These instruments use pre-filled reagent cartridges, and can support small to medium throughput purification. Some of our robots are validated for specialized applications such as in vitro diagnostics and human identification.

Liquid handling

An important part of every molecular biology workflow is the reaction setup. Usually, this step involves multiple pipetting steps of very small volumes of reagents and samples in a complex tube or plate configuration.

  1. Standalone assay setup. We offer a very flexible standalone liquid handling robot, which can be ordered with custom plate and tube adapters to ensure compatibility with any downstream PCR or sequencing applications.
  2. Integrated assay setup. One of our liquid handling robots can be integrated with an extraction instrument for a seamlessly integrated sample preparation procedure. As with the standalone version, custom plate and tube adapters ensure compatibility with any downstream PCR or sequencing applications.

Detection (Analysis)

  1. Hybrid Capture. Exclusively dedicated to HPV and CT/NG testing, hybrid capture technology uses chemiluminescence to perform a semi quantitative measurement with a predefined sensitivity cutoff, ensuring reliable and clinically relevant results.
  2. Capillary electrophoresis. Electrophoresis is the classic method of end-point PCR detection. We offer an automated version of this technology, which not only eliminates the cumbersome and time consuming steps of preparing gels and buffers, but also possesses superior resolution for powerful fragment analysis.
  3. One of the most routinely used molecular techniques is real-time PCR. It not only provides a means to accurately measure input DNA concentration, but also is robust and sensitive enough to be used in almost every medical diagnostic lab. We can deliver almost any brand of qPCR instruments depending on our customers’ performance and PCR format requirements.
  4. Pyrosequencing utilizes pyrophosphate released during nucleotide addition to generate a light signal, that can be recorded and quantify as a means to detect successful incorporation. We provide pyrosequencing instruments in a 24- or 96-well formats to support highly sensitive targeted sequencing applications.
  5. Next generation sequencing. We can deliver a fully automated NGS workflow, encompassing all steps of sample preparation, quality control and library construction. To provide an even higher level of integration, we can offer bioinformatics software products for application specific NGS data analysis and interpretation.
  6. PON solutions. Some clinical setting require point-of-need solutions in order to support and rapid therapeutic decision in a critical situation. We offer a highly specialized platform for microbial detection which can dramatically reduce the rate of inadequate initial treatment in cases of life threatening hospital acquired infections
